proffesional futures 3

I am not sure if I want to continue with my installation practice as without the resources of a university it becomes infinitely more difficult. I have read through some open calls and residencies for the appraisal that might suit my practice of audiovisual, digital, video, projection… arts which may offer me the support to do more. However I have recently felt quite jaded and disillusioned with fine art so have not gone to many small galleries or art shows so feel I don’t know the field well enough or have many networks or connections within that. Working with a space that people can come in and out of (rather than just time mostly with music) does appeal to me though.

I would also like to collaborate more with friends and need to be less afraid of asking to do so. I feel that i would have to treat this more as a hobby however as earning a living from just gigging for example is near impossible even for pop musicians. I even have pipe dreams of putting on my own noise and experimental music events with friends but it would be best to build a network first. Although venues usually have their own sound person it would also be good to get more experience sound engineering as that may make things easier in organising these situations. I could even look into trying to get a job as an engineer somewhere to build connections and observe events that way. I have enjoyed being in and contributing to a performance space even if not on stage in the past with experience doing live mixing. If I were to start gig promoting, I would also enjoy the designing of posters, flyers, branding and social media posts. I am inspired by the promoter atomiser for the range of artists from different genres and venues they combine.
