From studying at university I have realised I struggle very much with organising and motivating myself to make my own work, therefore I feel the freelance artist route is not well suited for me. I weirdly feel I would enjoy a “boring” office job for the structure it would bring to my day to day life but having done such a niche degree I fear my options in that are also limited. I have always wanted to explore the arts management, curation/programming route though and I feel that would suit my skillset (since I was a teenager – I did work experience at Kings Place). A new possibility I found from researching jobs for the appraisal section of this module is archival work. Its similar to working for an arts organisation with the sense of structure and working under somebody but still has some practical, hands on elements. These jobs would mainly lie with museums, libraries and media institutions with archives. The one that particularly piqued my interest was at the BFI as I share my love for music with a love for film. I thought it was different but also similar enough to sound arts because of the importance of sound and music in films as well as them both sharing the preciousness of analog techniques.
