prototype review

Reflecting on this prototype there are a few things I think I can develop or change in the future. Firstly I need to experiment more with different mediums or even if I want it as an installation at all. The projector definitely has its advantages in the ability to play with light as an object and in the space, presenting it at angles or in corners to further abstract the picture however the image quality is less than on a screen.

There is perhaps still not a strong enough link between the two elements therefore I may try to add motion with the use of strobe effects influenced by Tony Conrads structuralist film, Flicker. The rhythm could reflect that of my noise composition. Or edit the photographs in some way to add more variety in shape or colour. I also need to think of further ways the sound can be taken from the images. Adding more light sources was another thought I have been considering, block colours or tv static for example.

However this has led me to consider if it might work better as a film instead of an installation. Firstly as it is difficult to project on most surfaces without it reflecting too much light or being visible enough. But mainly as if I wanted to extend the length of the piece to make it more substantial, there is less likelihood of the audience member waiting to experience the whole sequence. If it was presented more like a film the audience would get the full length but no loops so there is a downside. Also maybe there is actually an interesting take from if somebody only experience one part of the piece. I will work on experimenting with a space and different screens and projectors for the WIP show which may help in figuring that out.
