week 9: kitchen fridge

(in kitchen)

find yourself in front of the fridge

staring blankly at the door, take a breath

(be aware of the yourself and the space)

open the door / close your eyes

take a breath

(engaging your senses, consider whats changed)

For this writing a text score task, I was inspired to develop the week 7 sonic material I chose from the kitchen to create a piece playing with the funny phenomenon we’ve all done of opening the fridge door only to look inside. A sort of silly modern day meditation, literally cooling your body and mind. I however removed the looking to focus on listening as well as smell and touch being that the kitchen is perhaps the most sensory room of the house. I feel this also can act as an elastic listening exercise, listening to the kitchen from the fridge’s perspective – becoming part of the fridge as you open it.
